Alison Sinnott is 2017 Blue Jean Country Queen

Alison Sinnott from Wexford was crowned the 2017 Blue Jean Country Queen at the 30th Anniversary Blue Jean Country Queen Festival on Sunday 4 June in Athboy, Co. Meath.

Alison is a 21 year old student and member of Kiltealy/Ballindaggin Macra na Feirme, whose sister Julie will represent Wexford at this year’s Rose of Tralee. Alison was awarded the top prize by the 30th Anniversary Festival judges, John Conway (former Macra Leinster Vice President), Geoff Thompson (Ulster Young Farmers) and Samantha Baldwin (1987 Blue Jean Country Queen). Last year’s winner, Dearbhla O’Connor from Louth, returned to Athboy to hand over the crown at a ceremony which took place following the 2017 Gala Banquet on Sunday evening.

Runner-up was Rachel Glennon, from Westmeath. She received €500 from Forefront Nutrition. Third place went to Niamh Howard, from the Avondhu region of Cork received €300 from M&G Groundworks.

Throughout the weekend, Alison and her 26 fellow Queens took part in a hectic and fun filled weekend which saw them do everything from take part in on stage interviews and a fashion show to attending a BBQ with main sponsors, Athboy Credit Union. As well as playing a game of Fancy Dress Football and singing Karaoke with the festival organizers and judges.

On Saturday night, the Queens helped the organizers celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the festival by joining in on the anniversary celebrations in the Darnley Lodge Hotel before heading down to the marquee to see Trevor Smith and Friends in Low Places – The Ultimate Garth Brooks Experience.

Speaking afterward, Alison pledged to represent not just the Blue Jean Country Queen Festival but all the young women who took part this year: “It’s such an honor not only to represent my county, Wexford, but the outstanding young women who all participated in the Blue Jean Country Queen 2017. I feel honored and privileged to have shared the weekend with such empowering Queens.”
