Blue Jean Country Queen 2020 Cancelled Due To COVID-19
The Blue Jean Country Queen Festival Committee has made the decision that this years festival will not go ahead due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The festival, run by Meath Macra na Feirme, was due to take place over the June Bank Holiday Weekend in Athboy, Co. Meath.
In a statement issued on the festival’s social media outlets, the committee expressed their disappointment that there will be no festival in 2020, however, they explained that the tough decision was made in the interest of health and safety of all attendees of the festival.
This year will be the second time the festival has been cancelled since it began in 1987. In 2001, the festival did not go ahead due to the outbreak of Foot-and-Mouth Disease.
The cancellation of the festival this year will see Meath Macra’s own Aoife Scanlon retain the title of Blue Jean Country Queen until the June Bank Holiday Weekend in 2021.
Only a few weeks ago, the festival committee made the big announcement that the Blizzards and Jake Carter would both be performing over the weekend. The festival organisers are now focused on next years festival and are looking forward to welcoming Macra members and Queens to Athboy next June.
The committee has expressed their gratitude to the local community and sponsors for their support over the years and look forward to working with them again in the future.
