The Blizzards and Jake Carter Perform at 2020 Blue Jean Country Queen Festival
The Blue Jean Country Queen Festival is set to return to the Darnley Lodge Hotel in Athboy again this June Bank Holiday weekend. The festival organised by Meath Macra na Feirme had a very successful year in 2019 which saw Meath Macra’s own Aoife Scanlon being crowned with the title of Blue Jean Country Queen, only the third local to win the personality competition.
The Blue Jean Country Queen Festival Committee are delighted to announce that fresh off the back of a sold-out Irish tour and the release of their third full-length album, The Blizzards are set to headline the festival this year. The four-piece punk-pop band from Mullingar, who are best known for their songs ‘Trust Me I’m A Doctor’ and ‘Fantasy’, will take to the stage in the CU Marquee at the Darnley Lodge on the Saturday Night of the festival, 30th May. The band’s frontman Niall ‘Bressie’ Breslin is well known for his time spent as a coach on The Voice of Ireland and for his work as an ambassador for Cycle Against Suicide, working to raise awareness and bring support to those dealing with mental health issues. Local band Priorland will support The Blizzards.
On Sunday 31st May, following the announcement of the new Blue Jean Country Queen, Jake Carter will bring the Country to the Blue Jean Country Queen Festival when he takes to the stage in the marquee. The younger of the well-know Carter brothers will also interview the queens on Sunday afternoon at the Lark in the Park in Athboy.
The festival organisers are very excited about this June Bank Holiday weekend and aim to bring an authentic festival feel to Athboy. Now in its 33rd year, the festival is set to bigger and better than ever, with an unlimited supply of day and night-time entertainment. Not forgetting, the chance for one lucky Macra na Feirme member to claim the title of Blue Jean Country Queen and a prize of €1000 from Athboy Credit Union.
Tickets to see The Blizzards and Jake Carter will be on sale soon.
